Oceans Alive Trust is a Kenyan not-for-profit organisation, created to promote, facilitate and accelerate environmental, economic and socio-cultural change for good on the Kenyan coast. OA supports Kenya’s LMMA managers through building of local leadership, sharing best practice, securing financial stability and making fishers voices heard. We work with coastal communities to develop transformative approaches for catalysing and sustaining locally led marine conservation.

OA will provide adaptive management support through management plans, finance, strategy, sustainability and training from experts in the various fields. The objective is that each project performs in the best and most efficient way possible with a clear, workable strategy and management plan. OA promotes a holistic way of working to include an integrated portfolio of programmes that reflects the relationships between humans, their health and the environment. It has been shown to produce greater impacts than single-sector interventions, and to generate additional benefits such as the increased engagement of women in alternative livelihood activities.

OA wishes to establish a centre of marine excellence area that will provide training for communities both locally, nationally, regionally and internationally Ocean Alive wish to create a cohesive adaptive management plan for marine resources for the Kenya coast which will support existing and future CCA’s.

OA will implement and support and connect similar Co management projects along the Kenya coast. Support will be in the form of advice, project implementation and financial support using experts in the various fields. With a solid foundation and clear strategies at inception these projects will evolve quicker and more efficiently and have a much higher rate of success.

OA will work collaboratively to spread resources and knowledge on CCA and community based adaptive management locally, regionally and internationally.

Our Objectives;

AIM: OA wishes to maintain healthy, well managed, and sustainable marine resources and ecosystems along the coast of Kenya. We aim to improve and where necessary establish locally appropriate governance systems for the marine resources
